The USA received four Russian rocket engines RD-180 which are
supposed to be used on Atlas-3A carrier rockets produced by
Lockheed Martin Astronautics company. The delivery of engines
was accomplished on the base of bilateral agreement between
Lockheed Martin and Energomash NPO. The engines produced in
Russia are to be mounted on the earliest models of the new
carrier rocket. In the years to come engines for carrier rockets
are proposed to be manufactured by a joint Russian and American
enterprise. The first launch of the Atlas-3A carrier rocket
supplied with a Russian engine was realized in May, 2000.
