Russia Leads the Way to the Space Today we celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the first artificial Earth satellite
launching at the spaceport of Baikonur. It was the Russian people who
first forced their way up to the Space, this out-break being one of the
greatest achievements of the mankind. Since then a lot of new facilities and the
best
engineering has been advanced which have no analogues in the world. The
space rockets devised by our designers have been so far the most reliable in
the world. Very few people, however, pay their attention to the fact that the
highly
developed Europe and the supertechnological Japan have not succeeded in
creating any spacecraft similar to the rocket PROTON.
The mere idea of conquering space was nowhere but in Russia put up
so high and acquired almost a religious nuance. The Russian natural
philosophers called Kosmists, Edward Tsiolkovskij, Yurij Kondratiuk, and
Nikolai Fiodorov a little earlier gave us some brilliant creative examples of
imaginative human spirituality. It was eternal Russian searching for God
which is believed to give impetus to the beginning of the space exploration.
The message of the Russian civilization to the mankind has not been
forgotten. Once, when in Italy, I have my car repaired in one of the country
"caracerie". On having learned that I came from Russia, a car mechanic, an
elderly person, began enumerating the days of the early Russian satellite
launchings. His knowing them by heart was a pleasant surprise for me. And
suddenly he came from the dates to the detailed characteristics of the
crews, including the surnames of our cosmonauts, which I myself had
forgotten a long ago. Our conversation acquired a strange, historical
meaning. The phrase "Moscow is the third Rome" sounded in a new,
refreshering way.
