Famous Soviet Astrophysicist Celebrates his 55th Anniversary
One of the creators of the well-known theory of accretion disks,
a famous astrophysicist of our country Nikolai I.Shakura celebrated
his 55th anniversary on 7 October.
Nikolai Shakura, being a representative of Zel'dovich school
in astrophysics, wrote a fundamental pioneering work in collaboration
with Rashid Sunyaev in 1973. The paper concentrated on accretion disks
around black holes which are supposed to be involved in a great number
of astrophysical objects, beginning from close binary systems to active
galactic nuclei. The creation of the disk theory became a significant
landmark on the way of progress in astronomy.
