New Atomic Submarine AKULA--2 Launched Several Days Ago
A new Russian
atomic submarine of AKULA--2 class, being a prolongation
of AKULA--1 class submarines (TYPHOON), was launched by Russian Navy Fleet
executives on 7 June, 2001. "The Times" mentioned that an AKULA-2 class
submarine pretends to being considered as the most silent in the world.
The submarine was put into operation 10 years after its keel had been laid
at the SEVMASH shipyard, near Arkhangelsk. By its technical
characteristics the submarine surpasses all other submarines available.
